Robert Lewandowski out of Barça’s Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Atlético

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski will miss Tuesday’s Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Atlético Madrid after taking a heavy blow in the 4-1 La Liga win over Villarreal on Saturday.

The club said in a statement that tests on Sunday revealed a bone fracture inside his left eye socket.

He scored the last goal against Villarreal, yet Barcelona face a 4-0 first-leg deficit ahead of the 21:00 return.

At 37, he is no longer an automatic starter under Hansi Flick, who has often preferred Ferran Torres through the middle.

Even so, the former Bayern Munich forward has remained decisive as an impact substitute this season. His absence adds to Barcelona’s challenge as they look to reach the final and defend their crown.
