Robert Lewandowski remains one of the stars of Hansi Flick’s Barcelona side. Despite being 36 years old, the Polish ace remains an elite striker. Even today, he continues to guide the youngsters around him and compete with the best players in the world.

During a recent interview with BBC, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo, the Polish forward spoke about many things. From his relationship with the youngsters to his confidence in his abilities, the Barça ace had some interesting things to say:

“When I see that I still don’t have to catch up to the youngsters — that they still have to catch up to me — it means next season can also be very good. I’m still here to show the best of myself. I’ve realised I can’t fight with them, but I can help them, and they can help me. I learn a lot from them. I never thought it would happen this way.”

Lewandowski shared his opinion on Lamine Yamal, going as far as to say that he has never seen a player like that at his age. Moreover, he gave his opinion on the youngster’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or as well:

“It’s the first time in my life that, after 50 minutes, I realised he had something special. I couldn’t believe it because I’d never seen a player like that at his age. I thought it was impossible at 15 years old. Lamine Yamal’s season was incredible, but in the end, everything depends on the most important factors. Ballon d’Or? He still has plenty of time — if not this year, maybe the next… Raphinha also had an incredible season. We have players who could be favourites to win that award.”

Speaking of the Ballon d’Or, he also spoke about his own regrets concerning the 2020 edition of the award that was cancelled. For many, he was the undisputed favourite to win the 2020 Ballon d’Or, but the award’s cancellation meant that no one won it that year:

“I was at the peak of my career, and I won everything with my club. The hardest part of it is that, to this day, I don’t know why I didn’t end up winning it.”

While it will be difficult for the Polish ace to get to that level again, he continues to be a key component in a team that is competing for everything. Fortunately, he can still potentially guide and help others around him to win that award.
