Roberto De Zerbi has ruled first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario out of Sunday’s game at Sunderland, with the Italian recovering from hernia surgery during the recent break. Spurs hope he could return later this month, but this fixture comes too soon.
According to Sunderland Echo, Rodrigo Bentancur also remains sidelined, while Mohammed Kudus was ruled out earlier in the week, though De Zerbi says he has enough options.
He stressed confidence in his attack, acknowledging Kolo Muani has not had a good season but calling him a good player, and namechecking Xavi, Richarlison and Solanke. Spurs could be in the relegation zone by kick-off, yet he remains focused on solutions over the final seven games.
After closely studying Tottenham, he highlighted young talents Bergvall, Archie Gray, Mathys Tel and Xavi Simons, alongside important older figures such as Van de Ven. He described Van de Ven as crucial, grouping him with Romero, Porro and Solanke, and said he wants to see the Gallagher he admired at Chelsea.
Sunderland head coach Régis Le Bris said goalkeeper Robin Roefs is back in contention. Jocelin, Romaine, Bertrand and Simon are out, with Ballard and Nilson close to returns but likely short for Tottenham. The rest of his squad is available.
