Robin Roefs has already played down talk over his Sunderland future amid fresh Tottenham links. According to Sunderland Echo, Spurs have placed the 23-year-old on a summer shortlist as they assess options in goal, and Sunderland are said to be confident of keeping him.

The Dutchman has shone in his first Premier League season after a £9 million move from NEC Nijmegen, an inspired deal given he was little known in England.

After the 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur he was linked with a £60 million switch to Chelsea. Asked about the noise, Roefs said he was focused on Sunderland, grateful for the trust from team-mates and Régis Le Bris, and largely uninterested in outside chatter.

His return against Tottenham followed an injury at Bournemouth that kept him out for several games. Melker Ellborg impressed in his absence, but Roefs’ reinstatement confirmed his status as first choice when fit.

He likewise downplayed talk of a move, saying it was not the time to consider rumours and that he would keep going. He praised the club’s progress since promotion and hoped to build again next season.

Roefs is seen as a candidate for their number one role, though Sunderland would likely make any deal difficult.
