Sky Germany report that Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Rocco Reitz has reached a verbal agreement with RB Leipzig.

The 23-year-old will reportedly sign a five-year contract with the Saxony club until 2031.

However, Leipzig – who want to finalise the deal as soon as possible – are unwilling to pay Reitz reported €25m-€28m release clause, and will instead try to negotiate a lower fee. Per Sky, it’s unclear as to what fee Gladbach would accept, but they are aware of negotiations between their player and Leipzig.

Reitz has featured in all but one Bundesliga game for Gladbach this season, providing two assists. Since making his debut at 18 under Marco Rose, Die Fohlen’s captain has played 96 games across all competitions – scoring eight and creating seven goals – for the club in which he rose through the ranks.

Why are RB Leipzig pursuing Rocco Reitz?

While Borussia are unable to compete in the upper echelons of the Bundesliga, Reitz has been a standout player for the last 2.5 seasons. With his workmanlike attitude, the former Germany U21 youth international is a tireless runner who coverages an average of 11km per game.

And with Kevin Kampl gone and Xaver Schlager leaving at the end of the season, Leipzig are in need of midfield reinforcements.
