The FA announced on Monday that Rodri, the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, has been fined £80,000 and given a warning for comments made after Manchester City's 2-2 draw with Tottenham on 1 February.

The Manchester City midfielder criticised the match officials in post-match interviews after Dominic Solanke's goal was allowed to stand despite appearing to have fouled Marc Guéhi. The decision was reviewed by VAR, which deemed no foul had been committed.

The charge alleged he behaved inappropriately in that interview by making remarks that implied bias and or questioned the integrity of a referee and or referees.

Rodri directed his frustration at referee Robert Jones and suggested some people did not want City to keep winning. He argued officials should remain neutral and said the situation felt unfair given how hard the team work.

The sanction comprises the financial penalty and a formal warning.
