Manchester City midfielder Rodri has reached a personal agreement with Real Madrid according to journalist Matteo Moretto.
However, City and Madrid have yet to agree on a transfer fee to conclude the deal.
Madrid has made Rodri a priority target as they continue to strengthen their squad to avoid a third consecutive trophyless season.
City, meanwhile, are still hoping to keep the experienced midfielder whose present contract expires next summer.
Rodri has been a pivotal player for Man City since joining from Atletico Madrid, helping the club win 13 major trophies.
However, since recovering from an ACL injury he suffered in 2024, he has struggled to rediscover his best form.
It was only recently, when he helped Spain win the 2026 FIFA World Cup, that he returned to his best form. Rodri was named the Player of the Tournament.
The 30-year-old would help Madrid control games more effectively with his composure on the ball, intelligent positioning and ability to break up opposition attacks.
Rodri’s brilliant range of passing would enable Madrid to build attacks more effectively from deep.
His existing chemistry with Bernardo Silva, forged during their successful spell at City, would further strengthen Los Blancos’ midfield.
Rodri represents a clear upgrade on Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, who have struggled for consistency since joining Madrid.
The Spaniard’s arrival could force Camavinga and Tchouameni to leave Madrid in search of more game time.
If Rodri completes a move to Los Blancos, he is poised to miss the start of the season as he prepares to undergo surgery to treat a back injury.
