According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Real Madrid are pushing a rapid move for Rodri, the World Cup MVP, with the transfer lined up pending contract signature. The captain wants to return to Spain and views Madrid as his best option.
The club aim to cap a revolutionary window after two seasons without silverware, with Yan Diomandé, Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella among the headline additions.
For Florentino, the pursuit carried the discomfort of Rodri having featured in rival candidate Riquelme’s platform, yet internal backing in Valdebebas swelled and Mourinho approved the move.
Next week is seen as decisive to complete two strategic signings. Rodri is considered vital to provide the organising holding midfielder Madrid have lacked in recent years. Under contract to 2027, the numbers will dictate when any deal is finalised.
Early talk exceeded 70 million, some of it deterrent. The idea is about 45 million plus variables and a deal to 2030 to spread cost. This operation is separate from Diomandé’s imminent arrival, the 120 million signing promised during the election campaign.
Roc Nation is driving Madrid’s biggest market moves, and PSG also showed interest in Rodri. Madrid want resolution before he rejoins City’s pre-season, and he hopes for clarity in the coming days, with the clubs having already worked together on Brahim Díaz. A return to LaLiga would follow his 2019 move to the Premier League and he would carry a strategic role under Mourinho after a World Cup that eased concerns over his age and injuries.
