Rodrigo Santoro shares Vila Belmiro images from Netflix’s 1970 World Cup miniseries | OneFootball

Rodrigo Santoro has shared behind-the-scenes images from Vila Belmiro during filming for a Netflix miniseries on Brazil’s 1970 World Cup, in which he portrays coach João Saldanha.

On Instagram he posted from Santos’ dressing room beside Pelé’s locker, and from the pitch at the Vila. According to Diario Do Peixe, the production charts the Seleção’s route to the title.

Released on Netflix on 29 May, the miniseries has proved a hit during the World Cup period, remaining in Brazil’s Top 10. It comprises five episodes in a single season.

Santoro and Lucas Agrícola, who played Pelé, filmed scenes at the stadium depicting the coach persuading the King of Football to return to the national team for the tournament in Mexico. The series also highlights other figures involved in the preparation and campaign.

Beyond Vila Belmiro, shoots were held across the Baixada Santista, including the Centro Histórico de Santos and parts of São Vicente, to recreate period settings.
