One of the most widely identified factor that led to the last two trophyless seasons for Real Madrid was the team’s problems with injuries. Injury crises, with several players unavailable due to injuries, were not very uncommon, and despite the recent changes in the medical department, things have not improved a lot.

One Merengue player who has had quite a difficult time with such injuries is the forward Rodrygo Goes, whose last injury came in March. He tore his ACL and the associated meniscus during a match against Getafe, and is still recovering from it. This was an unfortunate development for the Brazilian, as in addition to missing the rest of the season, this injury also meant him missing the World Cup 2026.

The forward would still needs some time to fully recover from this issue, and is expected to join the team in training a few weeks, or months, into the next season. However, he has not given up on football even as he continues to recover from this injury. Although he cannot play on the pitch, he is closely following Brazil’s journey in the World Cup.

Meanwhile, he is also writing articles for the English newspaper The Guardian, mainly commenting on his nation’s performances in the World Cup. In one such article, he talked about the coach of the Brazilian national team, Carlo Ancelotti, with whom he has already worked at Real Madrid.

In this article, Rodrygo also commented on Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Real Madrid, and expressed his keenness to play under the Portuguese manager. These comments went as follows:

“Throughout my journey so far, I have been guided by various top‑level coaches, as well as people I respect and am grateful to such as Zinedine Zidane, Fernando Diniz, Xabi Alonso and Álvaro Arbeloa. I am continuing my recovery with high hopes of joining Real Madrid under José Mourinho, a manager who has everything it takes to lead us back to winning trophies. In a field as fiercely competitive as football, it is impossible not to look forward to working with a professional known as “the Special One”.”

There is no doubt about the talent and skill that Rodrygo possesses, but going forward, he needs to improve his physical level and get rid of his injuries. Hopefully, he would return from his current injury soon, and help Real Madrid return to winning ways under their new coach.
