Rolando Schiavi has swapped the pitch for the vineyard, launching the 'Último Hombre' label in 2021 after retiring from football. The former Boca Juniors defender has turned a personal passion into a business.

According to Sitiboca.com.ar, Schiavi kept a low profile post-retirement and stepped away from coaching after leading Boca's reserves. He also represented Newell's Old Boys and Argentina.

The name, a nod to his role as the last defender, debuted with two 2018 wines, a Malbec and a blend. They were made in the Uco Valley, one of Mendoza's leading regions.

The first release was a limited run of 2,000 bottles, sold mainly via social media. What began among friends and family has grown into a more structured project.

Schiavi shares the enterprise with former Los Pumas rugby player Eusebio Guiñazú, plus partners Sebastián Beigel and Gonzalo Mazzotta, the project's oenologist. The team oversees everything from grape selection to brand identity.

Born in Lincoln, Buenos Aires, Schiavi often links the consistency and effort of his career to winemaking. Those values underpin the label's story.

His move fits a wider trend of footballers investing in wine. Within the Boca Juniors orbit, Edinson Cavani and Leandro Paredes have also backed ventures in recent years.

With 'Último Hombre', Schiavi opens a new chapter, far from stands and terraces yet with the same competitive spirit.
