Earlier this week, UEFA confirmed that they have granted permission for the Serie A match between Milan and Como, scheduled for February 2026, to be played in Perth, Australia.

The European governing body maintains their stance that league matches should not be played abroad, but have granted exceptions to Milan and Como, and for the Villarreal vs. Barcelona match in LaLiga to be played in Miami, USA.

Aside from the obvious marketing opportunities that the Milan vs. Como match in Australia will bring, the game could not have been played in San Siro anyway, given that the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza will be in use for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics on that date.

The decision to play the Milan vs. Como match abroad has divided opinions, but Roma owner Dan Friedkin insists that he and his side will always respect the decisions taken by UEFA.

When asked by reporters outside the ECA assembly if there is a possibility that Roma play in his native USA in the future, Friedkin replied: “We support whatever UEFA decides to do, they are our partners, like the ECA. They are close with us, the President is close to us and they are close with the fans, so we support their decisions.”
