Roma are on the verge of completing their first January deal, as they have shaken hands with Sunderland for the transfer of Enzo Le Fée. The midfielder is waiting for the final go-ahead to fly to England for the medicals and the signature, Corriere dello Sport informs.

The two sides have reached an agreement in principle on a loan with a €23M obligation to buy triggered by the promotion to the Premier League. The Black Cats are currently fourth and have three fewer points than league toppers Leeds United.

Sunderland overtook Real Betis at the final corner to sign Le Fée from Roma. He has tallied ten appearances, mostly off the bench, since joining from Rennes. The 24-year-old played the full 90 minutes just once. He missed extended time due to a knee sprain.

The Black Cats winning the race could indirectly help Juventus. The Spanish side will resume tracking Arthur.

The Giallorossi will start looking for a replacement. The early shortlist comprises two Cagliari players Claudio Ranieri is familiar with: Antonio Makoumbou and Matteo Prati, Tuttomercatoweb informs. The latter isn’t playing much under Davide Nicola. Daniele De Rossi contributed to his growth at SPAL and tried to bring him to the Eternal City last summer.

Our Take on Le Fée, Roma, and Sunderland

It’s unfortunate that he’s never been given a real shot amid his injury and the competition, but they have a chance to recoup their entire investment, which would be a boon. Their midfield is a hodgepodge as they don’t have a direct replacement for either Leandro Paredes or Manu Koné. They can go in a number of directions and should add a pair.
