Roma ‘to consider’ Sunderland’s £30m record signing Habib Diarra amid Koné uncertainty | OneFootball

Sunderland midfielder Habib Diarra has reportedly emerged as a potential target for Roma ahead of the new season.

Gazzetta suggests Diarra is on Roma’s shortlist if Manu Koné departs, with Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin also under consideration.

The report does not indicate an offer or formal talks. Any move appears contingent on Koné leaving, so Diarra is viewed as a possible replacement rather than an immediate priority.

Diarra joined from Strasbourg last summer in a deal worth around £30m, becoming Sunderland’s record signing. The 22-year-old agreed a five-year contract through to 2030.

He is expected to play a significant role for Régis Le Bris this season. Sunderland are not believed to be actively seeking a sale and would be in a strong negotiating position if interest is firmed up.

The midfielder came through Mulhouse and Strasbourg before a Ligue 1 debut in October 2021. He established himself at Strasbourg, then completed his move to Wearside in July 2025, and has now returned to training after an extended post-World Cup break.
