Romano gives big number Chelsea will have to deal with this summer

There’s been a lot going on at Chelsea this week.

The Blues all but confirmed two signings: both Dario Essugo and Geovany Quenda will join from Sporting CP in the future. Then of course there was a lot of attention on today’s match against Arsenal at the Emirates.

But while all that was going on, Fabrizio Romano snuck in even more info – this time on some sales.

The transfer insider confirmed that the club’s priority was another winger as well as Quenda, as well as a striker. But to balance that out, there is apparently the target of an impressive “7 of 8 sales”.

He names two of the most likely – Axel Disasi, who is on loan at Aston Villa, and Kepa Arrizabalaga, on loan at Bournemouth.

Kepa should be easy enough to sort out – the short term new deal he signed at Chelsea before heading to the South Coast had a £5m release clause built in, and the Cherries should have no problem paying that.

Disasi has done really well at Villa since going there, and that should just come down to finding an agreeable price with them to make that one permanent. If we don’t get too greedy, that should get done too.

Other potential outgoings

The rest of the sales will perhaps be a little more difficult – Joao Felix’s loan to AC Milan is turning into a bit of a disaster, and Raheem Sterling’s loan to Arsenal isn’t much better. They will both be pretty hard to move on at an acceptable price.

There are a number of youngsters we would imagine will go – Alfie Gilchrist, Bashir Humphreys among them. Lesley Ugochukwu hasn’t even had a chance at first team action, but the Essugo signing moves him even deeper on the depth chart.

It’s going to be another busy summer.
