Manchester City are maintaining a watching brief on Rodrygo’s future, with sources indicating that the player’s representatives have not ruled out a move to the Etihad Stadium during the current transfer window.
The Brazilian winger, 24, is understood to be open to working under Pep Guardiola, should the opportunity arise. City’s interest comes amid uncertainty over the futures of several attacking options, with the club preparing for the possibility of Savinho departing for Tottenham Hotspur.

Rodrygo’s current contract with Real Madrid runs until 2028, yet his role at the Santiago Bernabéu has diminished. He found himself out of favour under Carlo Ancelotti in the latter stages of last season, and incoming head coach Xabi Alonso is not expected to make him a central figure in his plans.
Those close to the situation suggest Guardiola has long admired Rodrygo’s technical qualities and tactical versatility. The City manager is believed to see him as an ideal fit for his fluid attacking system, combining intelligent movement with a proven record in high-pressure matches.
Rodrygo, for his part, is thought to be intrigued by the prospect of working under Guardiola, who is widely regarded as one of the most influential coaches in the modern game. This admiration is mutual, with City having followed his progress since his emergence in European football.
However, the Premier League champions are not alone in their interest. Both Liverpool and Arsenal are monitoring developments, with the player also holding respect for the philosophies of Arne Slot and Mikel Arteta.
Initial conversations have taken place between City and Rodrygo’s representatives to gauge his openness to a move, as well as Real Madrid’s willingness to negotiate. These talks are understood to be exploratory at this stage, with no formal bid submitted.
Madrid, while reluctant to weaken their squad, may consider offers if they receive a suitable fee. The club is also mindful of maintaining squad balance as Alonso shapes his first season in charge.
Rodrygo’s Champions League pedigree, combined with his ability to operate across the front line, makes him a high-value target. His acquisition would add depth and flexibility to Guardiola’s attacking options, particularly if Savinho’s exit materialises.
The closing weeks of the transfer window could prove decisive. City’s pursuit will depend not only on Madrid’s stance but also on whether Liverpool and Arsenal decide to accelerate their own interest. With three elite clubs involved, the competition for his signature is expected to be fierce.
For now, City remain in the conversation – and crucially, Rodrygo’s camp has left the door open. Whether that leads to formal negotiations could hinge on how aggressively their Premier League rivals move in the final stages of the summer market.
