Romelu Lukaku has missed Napoli’s return to training after remaining in Belgium for treatment on a hip problem, and the Serie A side have warned he could face disciplinary action. Napoli are third in Serie A.
The club said in a statement that he did not respond to the call for the resumption of training and that it reserves the right to take appropriate disciplinary measures, including excluding him from the group for an indefinite period.
He had been called up for Belgium’s tour of the United States, but withdrew from the two warm-up matches for the 2026 World Cup, which runs from 11 June to 19 July, due to inflammation of a hip flexor.
The 32-year-old suffered a thigh injury in pre-season and did not return to competitive action until January. Since his comeback he has made seven substitute appearances, five in the league, scoring once in a total of 64 minutes.
Napoli have not specified if or when any sanction will be imposed.
