Romero expected to miss rest of the season with knee injury

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero is expected to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury sustained against Sunderland.

Romero walked off in tears during the 1-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light, which leaves Tottenham in the relegation zone with only six games remaining.

It also puts Romero’s World Cup hopes with Argentina for the tournament in north America this summer in doubt.

Asked about Romero’s injury after the loss to Sunderland, new Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi said: “I hope for us it’s not too important a problem because he’s a crucial player for us.

“He’s a good guy, good player, top player, big personality and we need him to finish this season and to achieve our goal.”
