Ronaldinho is a cult hero in Serie A from his time at Milan. He last played a game of professional football in 2015 but that can now change.

The Italian press has confirmed that the Brazilian is set to join Serie C club Ravenna as a player.

But now, Tuttomercatoweb report that he will be much more involved than just that. He will also be the shareholder of Ravenna and won’t just be there to make a few appearances.

The expectation is that this will be announced officially in Miami on 23rd June, with promotion to Serie B likely to be a goal for the Emilia-Romagna based club.

Move shows more should invest in Italian football

Usually, ex-players have shown more willingness to invest in Spanish football. But branding wise, Italian football has a bigger lure and there is always nostalgia element involved, whenever there is Calcio.

Ronaldinho’s move shows more players can follow his route. The clubs are probably cheaper, with Italian football failing to have the right structure in place to uplift those teams. Involvement of players can definitely help and add more eyeballs to Italian football.
