Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of Saudi club Al-Nassr, has broken his silence to explain why he will be absent from the 2025 Club World Cup, currently taking place in the United States.Al-Nassr recently made it official by extending Ronaldo's contract through to the start of the 2027-2028 season, thus prolonging his adventure in Saudi Arabia.

In a statement to the club's official website, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner outlined his decision: "I received several offers to participate in the tournament, but I chose to rest. Next season will be long and intense, especially with the World Cup at the end of the year."The former Real Madrid icon added that he wants to prepare at his best to represent both his club and the national team. "I decided to play my final match of the season with the national team in the Nations League final, then take some time off to seriously prepare for the challenges ahead," he added.At 40, Ronaldo recently shone in the Nations League final, scoring against Spain and helping Portugal clinch the trophy with a decisive performance during the penalty shootout.
