Roony Bardghji staked his claim as Barcelona’s right-wing alternative, impressing in the Supercopa de España semi-final against Athletic while Lamine Yamal began on the bench.
As reported by as.com, Barcelona’s No 10 had missed some training sessions and Hansi Flick named him among the substitutes, choosing Bardghji as the natural replacement. The call paid off as the Swedish winger played with real conviction.
Across 72 minutes he scored with his only shot on target and set up Ferran Torres for the opener. He attempted four crosses, beat his marker three times and completed 91 per cent of his passes. He said he was very happy to help the team with goals and assists.
Bardghji joined Barcelona last summer for €2.5 million after long-term tracking by the recruitment team. Deco admires his qualities and backed the move despite the risk, because a serious injury before his arrival had kept him out for nearly a year.
Before that injury, Copenhagen had fielded many offers for Bardghji, but they faded and only Barcelona maintained faith in his recovery. Flick took him on the tour of Japan and South Korea to decide on a first-team place or a loan. He convinced the coach and stayed, and the club value his output, attitude and room to grow despite limited minutes.
