Rotherham United have appointed former Sunderland and Newcastle United midfielder Lee Clark as their new head coach.
The club said in a statement that he has been named first team manager on a deal running until the end of the 2025/26 season, following confirmation of Matt Hamshaw’s departure earlier in the day.
A 5-0 defeat at Peterborough United on Tuesday prompted the change. Rotherham moved quickly on Wednesday to install Clark at AESSEAL New York Stadium.
The Millers sit 22nd in League One, five points behind Blackpool with a game in hand. Clark will be unveiled at a press conference, then take charge for the first time away to league leaders Lincoln City this weekend.
Wallsend-born, Clark made almost 200 senior appearances for Newcastle before spells with Sunderland and Fulham, returning to Newcastle prior to retiring in 2006. As a manager he has worked at Huddersfield Town, Birmingham City, Blackpool, Kilmarnock and Bury, and most recently led Al-Merrikh in the Sudan Premier League.
