Ruben Amorim wants to keep Mason Mount at Manchester United beyond this summer, as per reports.

United are heading into the summer transfer window aiming to revamp Amorim’s squad on the back of yet another frustrating league campaign.

The club’s recruitment team want to address a number of areas in the squad, including their toothless attack.

However, there are concerns over the size of United’s transfer budget, especially if the Red Devils fail to secure Champions League football. They face Athletic Bilbao in the second leg of the Europa League semi-finals this Thursday.

According to Football Insider, INEOS, who have been ruthless in cutting costs, are keen to get rid of “most of the club’s highest-earning players.”

Mount is one of United’s highest paid players, taking home £250,000-a-week or £13 million per year after joining the side from Chelsea on a five-year deal in 2023.

The United No. 7 has failed to live up to expectations so far, owing to multiple injury issues. He has made just 41 appearances at the club so far.

Considering his situation, he should be among the players to be sold. Earlier this year, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United want to part ways with injury-prone trio of Mount, Luke Shaw and Casemiro.

However, Amorim is “still counting on” Mount, who grabbed only his second United goal against Brentford over the weekend, to have a future in Manchester.

It is claimed that Mount is keen to prove a point to Amorim and the club’s hierarchy in the coming weeks.

Amorim is understood to be an admirer of the England international. The attacking midfielder has the creative instincts and athleticism to shine as one of the two number 10s in the Portuguese’s 3-4-3 formation.

Despite Amorim’s belief in Mount’s potential, United are exploring the market for new wide playmakers, having been strongly linked with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
