“Ruined” Rio Ferdinand delivers his honest assessment of Man United’s loss to Everton | OneFootball

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed his devastation at the club’s loss to Everton on Monday evening.

United’s five-game unbeaten streak came to an end as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Toffees, who played most of the game with 10 men.

Idrissa Gueye was sent off inside 14 minutes after striking his teammate, Michael Keane, in a heated row.

Yet instead of spurring United into life, it was Everton who seized the initiative, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall firing them ahead at the half-hour mark.

A lethargic United had no answer for Everton’s stubborn and compact defence despite firing 23 shots. Six of these were on target. United’s best chance fell to Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutch striker’s header looked certain to nestle in the net, only for Jordan Pickford to plunge across goal and pull off a stunning save.

The defeat marked the first time in Premier League history that United lost to a side that had gone down to 10 men.

It was also David Moyes’ first triumph at Old Trafford as a visiting boss in 18 attempts.

After the victory, Rio Ferdinand took to X and revealed his true feelings on United’s uninspiring performance and the result.

The former England international wrote on X, “Painful watch this…”

“No urgency – v familiar performance we’ve seen lot over the years at Old Trafford!”

In a separate post, Ferdinand admitted to being left humbled after taking a swipe at Liverpool’s 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Ferdinand had called on Arne Slot to receive the same level of criticism as Amorim usually does when things aren’t going well for United.

The United legend remarked, “Guys, just back from a run, I had to put myself through it after last night.”

“It’s a tough game this, a tough game, you think you’re on top of the world, flying, got momentum, doing your thing and think, you know what? We can be a bit boasty (sic) I was man, I had my shades on, walking around Milan, I was feeling myself, I was, I have to say.”

“But this game can humble you quick. The result yesterday at Old Trafford against 10 men, against a good, solid Everton side, with 10 men and we don’t get it done. Absolutely ruined me, I’ll be honest, ruined me.”

He continued, “WhatsApp groups that were quiet, tumbleweed drifting through it last couple of weeks and now popping off like you’ve never seen it before with Liverpool fans, found their vocal box, found their voice and they’re giving it to me.”

“But it’s life guys, if you’re going to give it, you’ve got to take it. So I’ve gone for a run this morning, here we are, we will back. This is what supporting teams is all about, the ups, downs and rollercoasters, just stay on the ride guys.”

United have a chance to get back to winning ways on Sunday when they go away to Crystal Palace.
