The new kicker rankings have also given Michael Rummenigge something to talk about. The former Bayern and BVB professional turned his attention to FC Bayern’s players in particular – and had strong words to say about Serge Gnabry and shooting star Lennart Karl
Rummenigge generally agrees with kicker’s assessment that there is currently no world-class Bundesliga player in attacking midfield. However, for him this is a clear warning signal – especially with regard to a club like FC Bayern. „We don’t have a world-class ten in the Bundesliga! I totally agree with that, but it’s not good. Yet this position is so important. I always say: ‚The pass is the goal‘. Meaning: In this position, you need the ability to deliver pinpoint assists. Unfortunately, not so many can do that anymore,“ explained the brother of former Bayern boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in a commentary in kicker
From Munich’s point of view, there are two names high up in the „international class“ category: Serge Gnabry and Lennart Karl. Michael Rummenigge was pleasantly surprised that Gnabry came out so well in the rankings – but his verdict was not entirely without a side blow. „Serge Gnabry surprised me positively. However, they also know in Munich that he always plays well when his contract expires,“ he said with a view to the upcoming contract talks at the record champions
Nevertheless, Rummenigge acknowledged that Gnabry works reliably at the back and regularly scores goals – qualities that continue to make him valuable to FC Bayern
The praise for Lennart Karl was even more effusive, with the young attacking player having truly earned his classification at international level

„The classification in the international class is not only justified, but also justified by his performances in the Champions League,“ Rummenigge emphasized
At the same time, he made a clear appeal to national team coach Julian Nagelsmann: „And if the lad plays so well at Bayern, he has to play for the national team. And also for the 2026 World Cup. One hundred percent!“
