Pierre Ekwah (24) is set to return to England and sign for EFL Championship side Watford, as per a report from L’Équipe.
The former Sunderland has been refusing to play for Saint-Étienne this season, ever since his move to Les Verts was made permanent, despite the club’s relegation to Ligue 2. Amid a dispute with ASSE, he has not even been training with the first team in recent months, but he is now set for a move away.
Watford have reached an agreement with Saint-Étienne regarding the midfielder’s transfer. The Frenchman will join on loan for the rest of the 2025/26 season, L’Équipe understands. The Hornets completed the deal at the last minute, notably beating competition from fellow Championship club Leicester City, as well as Levante in Spain.
It is unclear whether Watford’s deal for the former France youth international includes a buy option. Regardless, Ekwah will look to complete a permanent move away from Saint-Étienne in the summer.
