Mohamed Salah has been linked with a reunion with Roma after announcing his departure from Liverpool, while Juventus have been after Sandro Tonali for years. However, neither of the two Premier League stars is likely to return to Serie A for economic reasons.
According to Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto (via SOSFanta), the forward has quickly received mammoth offers from a few foreign leagues, especially from the Saudi one. Inter Miami aren’t in the mix for now. He could head back to Italy only if he took a very steep pay cut. He hasn’t signaled he’s willing to do that at this stage.
Roma and other potential Italian suitors are trailing in the Salah race, while Juventus risk being overtaken by the English powerhouses for Tonali. He could indeed be on the move, but the two Manchester franchises and Arsenal have started eyeing him.
The Magpies value him at about €100M. His suitors are assessing the viability of the deal. The midfielder wouldn’t mind returning to the Peninsula at some point. However, he’s basically unreachable at that valuation.
Players who have spent time in Serie A, even foreigners, tend to find their way back eventually, but the financial state of the league doesn’t help. It’s more likely in the first case if the Liverpool star opted for one last hurrah in a top-five championship before riding into the sunset. Roma wouldn’t be the frontrunners despite the past ties. The Azzurri star has always looked like a pipe dream for Juventus, even though they are surely keen. He’d have to pick them directly, and they would need to concoct a multi-player trade, and not with some slouches, to get anywhere near those numbers.
