Egypt captain Mohamed Salah is preparing to play wider role in the national team’s future with Egyptian FA board member revealing the Liverpool star’s willingness to actively support key strategic projects following AFCON 2025.

Egypt concluded their tournament in fourth place after losing on penalties to Nigeria in the bronze medal match following goalless draw.

Speaking after the Pharaohs exit, Egyptian FA board member detailed long conversation he held with Salah in the aftermath of the defeat.

“I had extended discussion with Mohamed Salah after the Nigeria match” He said in televised remarks. “He genuinely cares about the country and expressed his readiness to cooperate on several files including the issue of dual nationality players and speaking directly with any player to convince him to represent Egypt”

According to the FA official, Salah’s ambition goes beyond the dressing room.

“He wants to work for the benefit of Egyptian football,” FA board member added. “There are other details I will reveal at the right time”

The comments underline Salah’s growing influence as leader within the national project following tournament in which he set the standard on the pitch.

The forward scored four goal and provided one assist, narrowly missing out on the Golden Boot after Egypt’s semi final and third place defeats.

Abu Zahra also confirmed continuity on the bench stating that Hossam Hassan will remain head coach for the next phase. Egypt are expected to play four friendly match in preparation for World Cup qualification with technical meetings planned upon the squad’s return to Cairo to assess both sporting and administrative needs.

“Salah told me he is fully ready to help Egyptian football” Abu Zahra concluded. “He delivered an outstanding example throughout the tournament and I hope he continues for as long as possible”
