Salma Paralluelo has spent the last few years proving she’s built for the biggest stage.

The Spanish international has completed a blockbuster move from Barcelona to OL Lyonnes, bringing an end to a four-year spell in Catalonia and handing the French giants one of the most exciting young forwards in world football.

At just 22 years old, Paralluelo already has a trophy cabinet most players can only dream of. Now, one of the game’s most feared attackers arrives in France as Lyon look to build their next era.

From Zaragoza to the top of Europe

Paralluelo’s journey began at UD San José in her hometown of Zaragoza before progressing through Zaragoza CFF and later Villarreal.

Even as a teenager, she stood out. Her pace came from her athletics background, where she competed nationally in sprinting before eventually choosing football full-time.

That raw athleticism quickly became one of her greatest weapons, but it was never the only reason people believed she could become special.

She developed into a fearless attacker who loves running at defenders, making intelligent runs behind the back line and producing moments that can completely change a game.

Her talent even earned her a nomination for the 2022 FIFA Puskás Award, a recognition that highlighted her ability to score spectacular goals long before she became one of Europe’s biggest stars.

Barcelona unlocked another level

When Barcelona signed Paralluelo after her Villarreal contract expired in the summer of 2022, it felt like the perfect match.

She joined one of the world’s strongest squads but didn’t simply become another talented youngster learning behind established stars.

Under Jonatan Giráldez and later Pere Romeu, Paralluelo became increasingly important to Barcelona. She added consistency to the explosiveness that had already made her such an exciting prospect.

Her breakthrough truly came during the 2023/24 campaign.

Paralluelo finished as Barcelona’s top scorer across all competitions, producing two four-goal performances, including a stunning poker in a 7-1 victory away to Real Sociedad as Barcelona completed another historic campaign by winning four trophies.

Her game also became more complete, with sharper movement and more consistent finishing. It was the season she developed from a promising talent into one of Europe’s leading attackers.

A player for the biggest occasions

If there’s one thing Paralluelo has consistently shown throughout her career, it’s that pressure rarely gets to her.

She announced herself on the international stage during Spain’s unforgettable run to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, scoring decisive knockout goals against both the Netherlands and Sweden before helping La Roja lift their first-ever world title.

She carried that same mentality back to club football.

Just two months ago, in what proved to be her final appearance for Barcelona, Paralluelo delivered another unforgettable performance.

With the Champions League final against Lyon still hanging in the balance, she scored twice late in the game to seal a commanding 4-0 victory and Barcelona’s fourth European crown.

It was a fitting way to say goodbye.

Just over a month later, on June 30, she officially left Barcelona after her contract expired, ending a remarkable spell that brought 15 trophies to the club.

Across four seasons with Barcelona, she made 75 Liga F appearances and scored 44 league goals. But those numbers only tell part of the story.

What she brings to Lyon

Lyon aren’t simply getting another player; they’re adding someone who can transform the way they attack.

Paralluelo is comfortable on either wing, through the middle or drifting into central areas. She stretches defences, attacks space and has developed into a clinical finisher inside the penalty area.

She also works relentlessly without the ball, making her an ideal fit for the aggressive, front-foot style Lyon have traditionally built their success on.

At 22, she also offers Lyon considerable long-term value.

While many of Europe’s biggest names are entering the later stages of their careers, Paralluelo is only beginning hers. That makes this transfer feel less like signing a superstar at her peak and more like acquiring one who still has several levels left to reach.

Leaving Barcelona was never going to be easy. The club helped shape Paralluelo into one of the world’s best attackers, and together they dominated both Spanish and European football.
