San Diego FC debuts with victory against Pumas UNAM in Champions Cup

SAN DIEGO – The 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup closed its opening night as San Diego FC made a triumphant debut, winning 4-1 against Pumas UNAM in the first leg of their Round One series on Tuesday at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California, USA.
The visitors took the lead in the 11’, with Adalberto Carrasquilla getting the ball to the center of the box to assist Robert Morales, who opened the scoring with an impeccable bicycle kick.
San Diego FC found the equalizer in the 68’, as Manu Duah connected with a header off a corner kick service from Anders Dreyer.
The hosts took the lead in the 76’ when Wilson Eisner whipped in a cross to find David Vazquez at the far post, with the latter nodding a header into the back netting.
The debutants added a third goal to their tally in the 81’ thanks to Alex Mighten, who took advantage of a loose ball in the area that came from a David Vazquez attempt.
Luca Bombino put a bow on the victory for San Diego in the 86’, striking inside the six-yard box to secure the first Concacaf Champions Cup victory the U.S. club.
Pumas UNAM will host the second leg of the series on February 10 at Estadio Universitario in Mexico City, Mexico. The winner on aggregate will advance to the Round of 16.
