Jadon Sancho must be something of a lucky charm for clubs in Europe. The Aston Villa winger’s appearance in the club’s Europa League final win over SC Freiburg on Wednesday night saw Sancho create a quite remarkable stat.
Across the last three seasons, Sancho has played in a major European final. Incredibly, those three finals have come while representing three different clubs, and in three different competitions!
Even more absurd is that each of those appearances were loan spells, with Sancho still contracted to Manchester United.
The 26-year-old played in the Champions League final during a six-month loan spell at former club Borussia Dortmund in 2023/24, with the German side beaten by Real Madrid.
A year later, Sancho was part of the Chelsea team that won the Europa Conference League under Enzo Maresca. The West Londoners came from behind to beat Real Betis 4-1 in the final, with Sancho scoring the third goal.
Sancho came on as a late substitute during Aston Villa’s 3-0 win over SC Freiburg in midweek to complete a quite unique set.
With his contract up in the summer, there might be some European hopefuls keen to see if Sancho brings them similar good luck.
