Sky Germany reports that Germany assistant coach Sandro Wagner has rejected the chance to become Hoffenheim head coach in the summer.
Wagner will leave his role as assistant coach to Julian Nagelsmann in the summer after the Nations League, and he has already been linked to several roles, with Hoffenheim considering him as their number one target.
However, after negotiations between the two, Wagner is said to have turned down Hoffenheim’s advances. The reason behind this is that the former striker has already reached an agreement with another Bundesliga side over becoming their head coach in the summer.
The current Bundesliga sides who are looking for a new head coach are Wolfsburg and RB Leipzig. While the future of Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso is heavily in doubt.
Current Paderborn head coach Lukas Kwasniok is another candidate with whom Hoffenheim has been linked. Kwasniok will leave Paderborn at the end of the season, regardless if they obtain promotion or not. St.Pauli’s Alexander Blessin and Karlsruher SC Christian Eichner have also been names floated around in recent weeks.
Hoffenheim are in the midst of a relegation fight and will likely look to part ways with Christian Ilzer in the summer.
