Santos carry out PRP on four players, Mayke could miss up to 20 days | OneFootball

Santos used the international break to address fitness complaints with PRP for four players. Caution surrounds Mayke’s case because of anti-doping implications from a corticosteroid used in his procedure.

According to Diario Do Peixe, platelet-rich plasma therapy was administered to right-back Mayke, midfielder Zé Rafael, attacking midfielder Neymar Jr and forward Gabriel Barbosa to speed up rehabilitation.

PRP is a regenerative therapy that uses the athlete’s own blood. After collection, it is centrifuged to concentrate platelets rich in growth factors, then applied to the affected area to stimulate healing, collagen production and cellular regeneration.

The treatments do not necessarily indicate injuries. Neymar is still working towards top condition after arthroscopic surgery on 22 December. Zé Rafael recently recovered from an oedema in the semimembranosus of his right thigh, and Gabriel Barbosa had discomfort in the pubic region.

Mayke must now wait for the substance to clear his system before he can return, and he could be out for up to 20 days. Even before this, Santos had left him out of recent Brasileirão matchday squads for technical reasons.
