Violence erupted in Curitiba after Athletico v Santos at Arena da Baixada on Thursday night in the third round of the Brasileirão. A Santos fan was left in serious condition, and an Athletico supporter later died after a clash with the Military Police.

According to g1, the first incident occurred at a bus station near the ground in the Água Verde neighbourhood. Captain Leonardo Socorro da Silva of BPChoque said Athletico’s group outnumbered Santos fans and used wooden bars, a knife and other objects.

The injured supporter was taken conscious, with a head wound and heavy bleeding, to Hospital Cajuru. Police said images helped identify victims and main aggressors. In total, 35 people, including 16 minors, all Athletico fans, were detained and items used in the fight were seized.

Around 23:00 in Boqueirão, roughly two hours after full time, a man died after a confrontation with the Paraná Military Police. RPC reported he was an Athletico supporter who had left the match, and that his identity has not been officially released. Witnesses told the outlet he ran into a property while fleeing.

Police said the homeowner had called, officers then found an armed suspect who resisted their approach and he was shot. Emergency service Siate was called but he died at the scene. The weapon was seized and sent to the Central de Flagrantes.
