Santos will be without midfielder Zé Rafael for Tuesday’s trip to Mirassol in the fifth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, 21:30 Brasília time. According to Globo.com, he has a thigh oedema and has begun treatment.

The issue has been identified in the semimembranosus muscle of his right thigh, an injury that can stem from strain or overload. He is expected to be sidelined for a few days while working with club medics.

His programme involves physiotherapy and ice, and the swelling must go down and the area heal before he can resume high-intensity training. His availability for Sunday’s derby against Corinthians remains uncertain.

Neymar will also miss the Mirassol game, the coaching staff have rested him to reduce the risk of a muscle injury. The No 10 is expected to return for the derby, and Barreal is likely to start in his place.
