Santos pay one month of overdue image rights before Sudamericana play-off | OneFootball

Santos paid one of three overdue months of players' image rights on Tuesday afternoon, hours before facing Universidad Central. Kick-off in the Sudamericana play-off is at 21:30 Brasília time.

According to Globo.com, a date for another overdue instalment will be presented to the squad after the delegation returns to Brazil. The board aim to outline a plan to clear all arrears by 31 July.

Players held talks with the finance department on Sunday, a day before flying to Valencia, the venue for the match.

The club carry debt of more than R$ 1 billion and have struggled to pay players this season. Despite a R$ 12 million FIFA transfer ban, officials are trying to ease the situation before the decisive tie.

Last week, centre-forward Tiquinho Soares went to court and secured the termination of his contract. He claims seven months of image rights arrears and three months of salary are unpaid.

The return leg is on 28 July at 21:30, at Vila Belmiro. The winner advances to the last 16 to face Macará of Ecuador.
