The Campeonato Paulista is under way and Santos are chasing attacking reinforcements for Juan Pablo Vojvoda, prioritising a deal for Michael.
According to Globo.com, the club are working on a loan for the 29-year-old, who is not in Flamengo’s plans for 2026, with Flamengo ready to let him go if he settles wages with Santos.
His arrival would plug the gap left by Guilherme’s sale to Houston Dynamo, a move worth a little over two million dollars, roughly R$ 10.7 million.
Vojvoda underlined the need for a winger after Wednesday’s derby defeat to Palmeiras, saying the staff have worked daily on replacing Guilherme and that talks are not straightforward.
Before turning to Michael, Santos pursued Rony of Atlético-MG. No financial agreement was reached, the club wanted a sale, and Jorge Sampaoli later complicated negotiations.
Early this season, while waiting for Neymar’s recovery, Vojvoda has used Lautaro Díaz off the left.
Robinho Jr., a fans’ favourite, is still not considered ready to start regularly.
If a deal is struck, Michael would be in line to take that role in the starting XI, broadening the Argentine coach’s options.
