Santos to pay R$ 9.041.400,39 to Vojvoda, still face Pedro Caixinha case | OneFootball

Santos must pay R$ 9.041.400,39 to head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda after sacking him on Wednesday following a 2-1 defeat to Internacional in the Brasileirão. According to Globo.com, the sum relates to terminating a contract that was due to run until the end of the year.

The compensation will be paid in instalments and has been factored into the club’s second-half budget. Smaller settlements are being negotiated for his backroom team, who have also left.

Assistants Nahuel Martinez and Gáston Liendo, fitness coach Luis Azpiazu, goalkeeping coach Santiago Piccinini and psychologist Christian Rodrigues have all departed.

While beginning to pay Cuca’s salary, Santos also face a more turbulent front, the Pedro Caixinha dispute. Dismissed on 14 April last year, the Portuguese manager is pursuing the full release clause, €two million plus charges, at FIFA.

Santos sought to stagger an estimated R$ 15 million total, but Caixinha refused. The club escalated the case to the governing body and, during the litigation, registered Cleber Xavier.

The Caixinha case could lead to a transfer ban, an outcome the club recently experienced in relation to João Basso’s move. At the end of February, Santos paid about R$ 15 million to Arouca-POR to lift a FIFA embargo that had blocked new registrations.
