According to Globo Esporte, Santos have paid Arouca to settle an outstanding fee and are waiting for their transfer ban to be lifted so they can register players.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled on 12 January that the club had 45 days to pay or be sanctioned. The ban was imposed on Thursday 19, and after settling the bill Santos are now awaiting its removal.
Uruguayan midfielder Christian Oliva has agreed a deal and is in Brazil, but the ban prevented his registration for the Paulista quarter-finals. The club are working to register him in the competition as soon as possible. The transfer window closes on 3 March.
Santos have also brought in Gabriel Menino and Gabriel Barbosa on loan, and completed permanent deals for Rony and Moisés.
Arouca pursued payment for João Basso’s August 2023 transfer, valued at around €2.7 million. The Portuguese club said the first instalment was made, but the remainder missed agreed deadlines. Before turning to CAS they went to FIFA, which referred the case to CAS, the club’s final avenue of appeal, and Basso has been used sparingly this year as Santos seek a termination.
