Saúl expected back at Flamengo next week amid ankle rehab | OneFootball

Midfielder Saúl is expected to return to Flamengo next week as he continues rehabilitation from surgery on his left ankle.

According to Globo.com, he is due in Rio de Janeiro to resume treatment with the club's medical department.

He underwent the procedure in Madrid on nine January and began his recovery in Spain. The plan was for him to remain in Europe for at least 15 days before continuing treatment in Brazil.

On Friday, Saúl used social media to reassure supporters. He is in rehabilitation, training gradually and following expert advice, and hopes to be back on the pitch very soon. He thanked fans for their messages.

Saúl has insertional Achilles tendinopathy, a bony prominence in the heel causing pain. The surgery removed that piece to ease the discomfort. The issue had troubled him for months and disrupted his run with Flamengo.

The projected return is two to three months, depending on his progress, so he will only be available after the Carioca and once the Brasileirão is under way. He will miss the Supercopa do Brasil against Corinthians and the Recopa Sul-Americana against Lanús.
