Marco Silva wants Andreas Schjelderup to stay at Benfica and has asked Rui Costa not to negotiate his exit, according to Glorioso 1904. The 22-year-old is yet to agree a new deal, but the Rui Costa-led SAD do not plan to open talks over his departure unless a truly irresistible offer arrives.

Schjelderup is viewed as a key figure for 2026/27, with Silva considering the winger a pillar of his project. In June the club submitted a proposal to extend his contract until 2031.

His valuation has climbed after an impressive second half of last season. The Norway international underlined that progress at the World Cup, again drawing interest from several European clubs, though Benfica have not received any official bids.

Rui Costa has reinforced the stance internally. Where a sale had previously been discussed around 40 million euros, only a significantly higher bid would now prompt a rethink.

Silva admired Schjelderup during his time at Fulham and even explored signing the player. He now sees a more mature, more complete forward ready to take on a leading role across the campaign.
