Manchester United talent Sekou Kone is set for an unexpected change after he fully recovers from the terrible injury he sustained last week.
Kone suffered a serious head injury last Wednesday, as United’s Under-21s came up against Tamworth in the National League Cup.
The midfielder was floored by a nasty collision while trying to defend a corner at The Lamb Ground. He instantly hit the floor, prompting the referee to temporarily halt proceedings as he received treatment.
There was a lengthy pause before a decision was eventually made to abandon the game.
Kone was stretchered off the field and taken to hospital, where he spent the night undergoing further tests. It was indicated that the Malian was recovering well at home in Manchester.
Now, the Daily Mail have revealed the exact nature of Kone’s injury, while indicating that he could be in line for a surprise change – wearing a protective mask.
The newspaper reports, “It can be now revealed that Kone fractured his eye socket in the collision and he will have a scan this week to assess the extent of the damage to his orbital bone.”
“Club insiders are not overly concerned about his spell on the sidelines, with one potential option for Kone to play in a face mask in a couple of weeks if he feels comfortable enough to do so.”
Kone was unsurprisingly not part of the Under-21s group that beat Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Monday.
Ethan Ennis scored the only goal of the meeting as the Red Devils opened their 2025/26 Premier League 2 campaign with a victory.
The major positive is that it doesn’t look like Kone will be sidelined for too long.
The teenager is making great strides at United and if his current trajectory continues, a first-team breakthrough may not be too far away.
