Selling Manu Kone could help with FFP troubles, but can Roma afford to do that?

On field performance or off field compliance is the question that shrouds Roma. Despite being hounded by the FFP demons, Roma have managed to give Gian Piero Gasperini some fighting tools for his first season in charge of the club. But as per the rules, they need a sizeable sale to be in the green and clear. As per CdS, this is only possible if they sell one of Manu Kone, Matias Soule or Evan Ndicka. Inter notably came in for Kone during the summer transfer window but Roma were clear that they won’t be selling the Frenchman especially to a domestic rival. Kone’s start to the season has been nothing short of exceptional, for both club and country and it does seem that he has nailed down a starting spot in the France team with the World Cup in less than a year. Given how much he has grown over the last year, since his move from Borussia Monchengladbach, any transfer away for Kone would involve either some top European or Saudi Arabian club and a significant transfer fee, which would be enough for Roma to fight away FFP issues for some time. But in doing that, they would be losing one of their best players and one of the better young midfielders in world football. Performance or compliance? That’s for Gasperini and those running the club to decide. Kaulik Mitra | GIFN
