Bayern Munich and Germany forward Serge Gnabry has withdrawn from this summer’s World Cup, which runs from 11 June to 19 July, after tearing the adductor in his right thigh, the player said in a post on Wednesday.

He sustained the injury late last week and will also miss the Champions League semi-final against PSG. The tournament is co-hosted by Canada, the United States and Mexico.

In his message, the 30-year-old said recent days had been tough, noted Bayern still have plenty to play after sealing another Bundesliga title at the weekend, and accepted his World Cup dream is over. He added he would support Germany from home, focus on recovery and aim to return for pre-season.

Bayern clinched a 35th German title on Sunday. They remain in two competitions, with a German Cup semi-final against Leverkusen on Wednesday.

In Gnabry’s absence, head coach Vincent Kompany can turn to the phased return of Jamal Musiala, who is working back from a fractured left fibula with an ankle joint dislocation suffered at the Club World Cup last July.
