The chaos surrounding Brescia and the postponed Serie B relegation play-outs have descended into multiple legal actions and the possibility of expanding the league.

Brescia had managed to avoid relegation, sending Sampdoria down to Serie C, with Salernitana and Frosinone ready to enter a play-off for that final spot.

However, as there were irregularities in the credit note allowing Brescia to prove their financial stability, they could be docked four points.

That would transform the foot of the table, rescuing Frosinone, sending Brescia down, with Sampdoria and Salernitana in the play-out instead.

With that in mind, the scheduled play-out was postponed until a judgement can be reached on the Brescia situation, but that could take will not be until May 30, even longer if Brescia lodge an appeal.

According to Sportitalia, we could see the play-out Sampdoria vs. Salernitana scheduled anyway for mid-June, then if Brescia win their appeal, there will be 21 or 22 teams in Serie B next season rather than 20.

Inevitably, Salernitana are suing to have that decision changed and go ahead with the scheduled play-out against Frosinone.

Expanding the Serie B tournament due to appeals and legal action is not entirely new, as the competition went from 20 to 24 teams in 2003 when relegation was scrapped.
