Liverpool’s performance levels have dropped off a cliff since they were named Premier League champions just over a year ago.
Many supporters have taken issue with Arne Slot and his decision making, but the players are not blameless.
A nasty run of injuries and the tragic passing of Diogo Jota have undoubtedly played a part in the Reds’ poor season, but the level has not been good enough.
Another busy summer window is expected, and several members of Liverpool’s first team could make way for new additions.
Two departures have already been confirmed, Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson, but Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that a number of other players’ futures are hanging in the balance.
With only two games remaining in the campaign, those who are on the periphery of Slot’s squad are running out of time to prove they deserve to remain at Liverpool.
The club will have to sell in order to fund their summer spending, and Romano has now confirmed that the futures of multiple Liverpool players will be assessed at the end of the season.
Alexis Mac Allister, Alisson Becker, Curtis Jones and Federico Chiesa are among those who have been linked with an Anfield exit in recent weeks, and it is possible that all four could be sold this summer.
Jones has become Liverpool’s makeshift right-back recently, despite Jeremie Frimpong and Joe Gomez being fit, and the academy graduate could be entering his final weeks at his boyhood club.
Mac Allister has struggled to find form this season after being one of the best players in Slot’s title winning campaign, and the Argentinian has attracted interest from around Europe.
It is possible that players like Jones and Mac Allister will push for a move away to secure a new challenge, but Richard Hughes and Co will be watching on for the final two matches of the season before making any final decisions.
For those on the periphery of Slot’s squad it could be make or break, and time is running out to prove themselves before the squad is assessed at the end of the season.
