Sevilla have an agreement in place for former Alaves manager Luis Garcia Plaza to replace Matias Almeyda, according to AS.
Almeyda was dismissed on Monday with Los Nervionenses three points above the relegation zone. A 2-0 home defeat to Valencia proved the final straw and ended his reign after 32 games. Sevilla have the division's worst defensive record, 49 goals conceded in 29 matches.
Sevilla will have a new manager in place for their crucial relegation battle against Real Oviedo after the international break. The report said talks were held on Sunday and have already concluded. The club opted for experience over Diego Martinez and Manolo Jimenez.
Garcia Plaza becomes the ninth coach since Julian Lopetegui was sacked in 2022, the most prolific rate of managerial appointments in La Liga over that span. It underlines the instability in Nervion. Sporting Director Antonio Cordon is the third in that period.
Were Sevilla to go down, their current takeover bid would be at risk. Sergio Ramos is heading a conglomerate that have agreed a price with the present shareholders and remain in a due diligence period, and relegation may scare off investors.
