Congratulations to Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, who has been named 2026 Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year.
The Jamaican has enjoyed one of her finest seasons in 2025/26, helping City claim the Barclays Women’s Super League title with a game to spare.
With 19 goals in 21 matches Shaw’s on track to claim the WSL Golden Boot for a third successive campaign – a league record – while she could also become the first player to reach 20 strikes in three different seasons.
She’s now won the prestigious FWA award for a second time in her illustrious career, having previously finished top of the vote in 2023/24, while Nikita Parris is the only other City player to have won the award having done so in 2018/19.
Joining the Club in the summer of 2021, Shaw has gone on to find the net 113 times in 135 appearances, becoming the first player in our professional history to reach a century in December 2025.
In typical Bunny fashion, she went on to grab a further three goals in that 6-1 win over Aston Villa after her first strike had brought up 100 at the Joie Stadium.
Also shortlisted for the WSL Player of the Season prize for 2025/26, the Jamaican is also just one more goal or assist off reaching 100 goal contributions in the competition.
Should she do it against West Ham United in our final match of the season, she’ll be the second quickest player in the competition’s history to reach the milestone.

Speaking about the award, Shaw said: “It’s an honour to have been named FWA Footballer of the Year for a second time in my career, and I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me.
“This has been a special season for Manchester City. Playing a part in us winning the WSL title for the first time in ten years is one of the proudest moments of my career.
“There have been a lot of special moments this year for me personally, but so many people have helped on my journey. So, a huge thank you to my amazing team-mates, the staff and everyone at City for your support.
“We still have lots to fight for this season, so while this is a proud moment for me and my family, we’re all working hard to hopefully have even more to celebrate before the end of this season.”
Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Bunny on being named FWA Footballer of the Year.
