Sheffield United have been told to do all they can to bring Harry Souttar back to the club after Leicester City were relegated.
Sheffield United’s inconsistent form continued on Saturday as they were beaten by Preston at Bramall Lane.
The Blades have had little to play for a while now, as it has been apparent for some time that they wouldn’t be able to reach the top six, and they haven’t had major concerns about being dragged into the relegation battle.
Therefore, attention is on next season, with Chris Wilder making it clear that he is expecting a major overhaul to take place in the summer window.

So, it will be interesting to see what business gets done, and the Blades are seemingly ready to cash in on some of their high-profile players in order to fund the rebuild.
In truth, Wilder is likely to address most areas of the pitch, but bringing in a dominant centre-back is likely to be a priority, as Sheffield United have looked weak defensively.
Naturally, fans are discussing who could fill that role, and a move for former loanee Harry Souttar is something that could happen following Leicester’s relegation.
The Australian was with the Blades last season, but his campaign was cut short following an Achilles injury, and such is the lengthy recovery from such a setback, Souttar only made his first appearance for the Foxes against Millwall on Friday night.
Despite the lay-off, Souttar immediately reminded everyone of his quality, as he was dominant at the back, and he also scored for Leicester in their 1-1 draw.
Given Leicester’s situation, there is a possibility Souttar could move on in the summer, and when asked by FLW about the prospect of bringing the 6ft 7in defender back to Bramall Lane, Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy from the Blades Ramble YouTube revealed it was a no-brainer, as he urged the club to try and do a deal.
“Souttar would be a brilliant signing for Sheffield United. He is someone the fans have kept an eye on, we know that Wilder has kept an eye on him, and he was brought back to the Lane for a round of applause and farewell after he had gone back following his injury, which is really rare if he’s not someone in your medium to long-term thinking.
“So, yeah, he has come back from a significant injury, so we may try to structure a deal similar to what Luton did with their players that are on big wages, when they loaned them to the Championship.
“That may suit all parties. If Sheffield United can pay his wages, we won’t have to pay a big transfer fee, and we don’t have parachute payments. It also lessens the risk if his injury was to reoccur, and it takes his wages off Leicester’s books.
“That might be something to think about, and if we can get anything like the Souttar we had previously, he will be one of the best defenders in the division.”
Souttar’s performance against Millwall was outstanding when you consider how long he had been out, and it was a reminder of just how good he can be.
He won virtually every header that he challenged for, he was aggressive, and he could be seen organising and talking to his teammates.

In short, he was everything that Wilder’s side have been lacking, and it’s natural to wonder where Leicester would have been this season if Souttar had stayed fit.
The Foxes’ financial situation means they will be vulnerable to losing Souttar, and most Sheffield United fans would echo the thoughts above, as it’s certainly a deal they should explore in the circumstances.
Souttar’s connection with the Yorkshire club means they would be in a decent position to bring him back, and the player will surely want to play at the highest level possible.
His injury record is a concern, but, on the right terms, it’s a gamble that Sheffield United could take, as if Souttar does stay fit, he would be a big improvement on what they have right now.
