There’s always a moment when a young player stops looking merely like a prospect and starts to be a solution. For Sheffield United and Chris Wilder, that moment feels like it’s arrived for Andre Brooks.

Under Chris Wilder, the Blades have rebuilt their identity around structure and intensity. But what every promotion-chasing side needs is a spark. They have the likes of Gus Hamer, but Brooks has taken a clear step forward in 2025/26.

He is now someone who can turn tight games, stretch defenders, and deliver when it really matters more consistently for Sheffield United. Brooks is beginning to tick those boxes with increasing authority on the right-hand side and make the position his own.

It’s not just about flashes anymore but goals in big moments and assists that change matches. He is showcasing a willingness to demand the ball when others are perhaps hiding. Brooks is no longer just an academy product being eased in but a genuine attacking weapon in an ambitious side.

Andre Brooks is growing in confidence and end product for Sheffield United

What’s stood out most in recent weeks is Brooks’ composure in the decisive moments, which was especially true after his finish against Portsmouth during the 1-0 win over the weekend.

Wingers at Championship level often flatter to deceive. If they didn't, they would more likely be playing a level higher. Brooks is possibly on his way, given that he is not just beating his man but also finding more consistency with his final ball.

They show energy but fade when the pressure ramps up. Brooks, by contrast, is starting to marry direct running with real end product. He’s driving into the box with purpose on the ball, or crashing the box off the ball to score more regularly.

In that sense, his decision-making has sharpened — when to cut inside, when to stay wide, and when to pull the trigger. That improvement in his mentality matters in a side chasing promotion. Wilder demands bravery from his wide players, and Brooks is responding.

He tracks back, he presses, and combines well on a youthful right flank with Femi Seriki. When possession turns over, the pair are immediately on the front foot. There’s an understanding developing between both he and his overlapping full-back, and it’s creating overloads that are becoming a genuine problem for the opposition.

The numbers are starting to reflect the eye test too. Goals and assists are stacking up, and they’re not consolation contributions, given that they’re meaningful interventions in tight contests. The 22-year-old has 15 goal involvements for the Blades in 85 games.

But nine of those have come in 30 games this season for Sheffield United. It's fair to say that, when a player begins influencing outcomes rather than simply participating, their value to the team and their market value rises quickly.

It’s easy to forget that Brooks is still relatively early in his senior journey. There’s development to come — physically, tactically, and in terms of consistency across a full campaign. But that’s precisely why his recent trajectory is so intriguing.

He has four goals in his last five league outings and four goals and two assists in his last nine games in all competitions overall. It's also fair to say that Championship clubs that successfully return to the Premier League often do so with a blend of experience and one or two breakout stars.

Brooks has the profile of someone who could either become central to Sheffield United’s next top-flight chapter or command serious interest if suitors come calling. Modern football places a premium on wide forwards who can score, assist and press relentlessly. Add homegrown status and upward momentum into that equation, and it's even more promising.

Wilder will know that nurturing Brooks properly could pay dividends on and off the pitch. If his development continues at the current rate and the goal involvements stay consistent, Sheffield United, but he’ll have an asset that could quite genuinely be worth millions.
